These pages contain the reports of the running of this organisation. There a number of activities that occur in the background in order to make this a successful and a viable organisation. These reports provide a record of our activity for public scrutiny. This organisation aims to be always fully accountable to its members and sponsors. Any queries may be forwarded to our general secretary.
General body meeting report
- Full report
- This took place on 11th February at 12:30 pm in the conference hall of London Heathrow Marriott.
- It was attended by members of CAOS UK and the Executive Body.
- The meeting took place during the successful CAOS UK 2006 (Inaugural) Congress.
- The executive body presented to the members the organisational achievements since inception 6 months earlier
- Mr Marci Maheson (President), declared the congress a success and announced Fellowships.
- Mr Kamal Deep summarised the organisational activities of CAOS UK. Michael Hawley's contribution was acknowledged.
- Prof Justin Cobb supported the words of the President and General secretary.
- Mr A Agarwal gave a financial status summary.
- Mr Saif Ahmed reported on the website activities and future projects.
- The body proposed a motion to increase membership subscription rates. This was passed by the membership present.
- A discussion regarding the possible company bias in the way this organisation was run was flatly denied and evidence was shown.
- A motion to become an institutional member of CAOS international was passed.
General body meeting report

- This took place on 7th October at 6.00 pm in the conference room of Holiday Inn Rochester.
- It was attended by 31 members of CAOS UK.
- The meeting was presided over by Mr Frank Langlotz, the general secretary of International CAOS.
- An introduction was made as to the beginning of CAOS UK and its aims, objectives and plans to achieve those objectives, as also displayed on the main website of the organisation.
- An election the executive body took place. All the posts were chosen unanimously.
- Mr Marci Maheson was elected as The President.
- Prof Justin Cobb was elected as the Vice President.
- Mr Kamal Deep was elected as general secretary.
- Mr A Agarwal was elected as treasurer.
- Mr Saif Ahmed was elected as Webmaster.
- All the elected executives accepted their posts. The working and running of the organization was handed over from Directors of the organization Kamal deep, A Agarwal and Yateen Morar to the elected body.
- Brief speeches were made by the executive before the close of the meeting all aiming to increase the profile of organization, making it known to more and more people, involvement of basic scientists and researchers along with other interested parties keeping the development of computer aided orthopaedic surgery as the main aim and objective.
- A thank you note was given to Michael Hawley, Justin hall and Stryker for its support to the organization to take off from the start.
- CAOS UK was granted official status of national chapter of CAOS International for United Kingdom and was allowed to use the logo for CAOS international.
MIS & CAOS in Hip Arthroplasty Course Report

- Aims
- To spread the awareness about computer assisted orthopaedic surgery in United Kingdom
- To discuss and exchange ideas and developments in the field of total hip replacement arthroplasty specifically related to computer aided surgery and minimally invasive surgery and its relevance to current practice..
- To bring the interested parties, industry and orthopaedic surgeons together for further development of the aims and objectives of computer assisted orthopaedic surgery.
- Activities
- The course was organized in association with the charity Medway spine trust.
- A number of International and national experts in the field were invited to make presentations and discuss the subject.
- A live computer aided total hip replacement surgery was performed by Mr Kamal Deep, Mr Alan Hammer and Dr Uwe Schwarz. The surgery was telecast directly with two way link to the course participants and faculty. Good interactive discussion took place.
- This surgery was followed by another live surgery on minimally invasive total hip replacement by Dr Uwe Schwarz and Mr Alan Hammer.

- A sawbone workshop was conducted by Mr Marci Maheson on Resurfacing hip arthroplasty.
- A number of industry companies participated in the event to make it a successful occasion.
In all it was a successful meeting and succeeded in its purpose of educating and spreading the awareness and getting the surgeons and industry to CAOS UK as a contact point for further development of computer aided orthopaedic surgery.

- To spread the awareness about computer assisted orthopaedic surgery in United Kingdom
- To get more membership for CAOS UK.
- To bring the interested parties, industry and orthopaedic surgeons together for further development of the organization and its aims.
- Activities
- One of the directors and secretary of the CAOSS UK, Kamal Deep , went to British Orthopaedic Association meeting at Birmingham on 20th Sep 2005. Also Richard who was selected to help and man the counter was taken along from London. A lot of advertisement and awareness material which had been prepared already including posters, stationary, many types of leaflets to increase the awareness were taken along.
- At the conference the posters were displayed at the booth no. 743. The leaflets were displayed at the booth as well as in general arena for future programmes and meetings.
- It was visited by approximately 400 orthopaedic surgeons and industry people who were educated about the CAOS.
- A presentation was made in the evening of 21st Sep in the stryker symposium by Mr Kamal Deep on the technique, rationale of computer aided surgery in total hip arthroplasty.
- A number of people enquired, became members and others took away the membership forms, the annual congress forms and the MIS & CAOS in Hip arthroplasty course forms.
In all it was a successful meeting and succeeded in its purpose of spreading the awareness and getting the people to CAOS UK as a contact point for further development of computer aided orthopaedic surgery.
